It was good. Slow and thoughtful with beautiful descriptions. Very much an anecdotal journal.
informative reflective slow-paced

Heel lang geleden gelezen; ik herinner me dat ik het interessant vond omdat het verhaal maar deels het verhaal van de film betrof en veel meer wat zij met de mensen, de Afrikaanse mensen die ze in Afrika ontmoette beleefde.

Just another fantastic second reading.

For a biography, I'd give this 4 and a half stars. I'm just not a fan of biographies.

I did feel like this book did a great job of showing me what Africa was like back in the World War 1 era. It was interesting to see what was happening there from the perspective of this unusual woman. I felt like I was learning about Africa, about the different native tribes, about all the different groups who had moved in, and, most of all, about Isak Dinesen herself. She has a gift for expression that does make the writing interesting.

Enjoyable

Beautiful stories of life in the earlies 1900 in Africa. Moving, elegant prose , totally enjoyable. Also, the movie does the book justice
adventurous medium-paced

This is a collection of thoughts and experiences Karin Dinesen recorded during her time in Kenya. It was interesting to me to see life in that country before AIDS, to read about the people, life on her plantation, and listen to her describe the land - in Meryl Streep's voice, of course, because I could never quite get the movie images out of my mind. The movie varied significantly from the book, or maybe it just left so much out I had a hard time finding the thread.
