Jennifer Weiner

3.55 AVERAGE

This was my first experience with an audio book. I listened to most of it in my car and finished it up at home this weekend. It was alright. I didn't expect Cannie to turn out the way she has. It was a bit disappointing that she lets Joy run rampant the way she does. And the twist... is just damn awful. Without it, I think I might have actually been able to enjoy it fully but it came across gratuitous and over the top. Most of it was over the top, to be honest. The things Cannie let Joy get away with. The things Joy did. I just have to shake my head. The series should have ended with Good In Bed.

Needed something easy after my last book!

I was all set to give this book a solid 3.5 star rating when a HORRIBLE THING happened at the end that made me want to throw the book across the room. So, SO upset with the ending of this book. So upset.

I love Jennifer Weiner's books. Her characters are drawn realistically. This book revists Cannie she first wrote about in "Good in Bed". It is 13 years later and Cannie's daughter is a confused 13 year old who wonders the truth of her life after reading the book her mother wrote about her early years and accidental pregnancy. My only problem with this book is that she took the sad circumstances too far.

Cannie’s daughter joy is 13 and prepping for her bat mitzvah. Navigating teen social scene she discovers a book her mom wrote right after having her that leads to many questions. Cannie and Joy narrate as thier relationship becomes fraught. Great descriptions of the bat mitzvah competitive scene. Overall, Cannie is less fun than I expected and the book much sadder. wished there was more Maxie Rider. An enjoyable listen

Smart, funny, witty - I've read all of Jennifer Weiner's books. I loved this book, not as much as Good in Bed or In Her Shoes, but a close #3. I thought there was a little too much attention on the teen angst, but I'm a high school English teacher who just finished a school year of teen angst.. LOL.. take it with a grain of salt! The story was brilliant and funny, engaging and I read it all in 3 days. Loved the ending, unexpected and touching. Loved the inside jokes and innuendo I've come to expect and adore in Weiner's books.

I read this in an evening. I'm glad that Weiner wrote a follow-up novel with Cannie Shapiro as the protagonist. I'm not sure how much I liked the structure of the novel - that every other chapter was written from the perspective of her teenage daughter - but I think that it works for the story as a whole. Teenagers being how they are, you'd never get half of the story if you didn't hear it directly from Joy.

There is a very big surprise towards the end that I didn't see coming - it drastically changes how the novel ends - it works in terms of dramatic structure. One of Weiner's strengths is writing characters that the reader feels like she really gets to know -- so it's a double whammy whenever anything bad happens to any of them.

Not a heavy lift, but entertaining and relatable. An enjoyable read!

hated it. I only finished this book because someone loaned it to me and for some strange reason, I have difficulty not finishing a book for the sole reason of not liking it.

This was a good sequel, but I didn't enjoy the ending... it was good overall, though.
