I really enjoyed this book although the plot was really simple. The story wasn't original but it was super engaging. The writing was fascinating and captivating and that was what I needed for this repetitive novel

I saw the twist coming from a mile away and I didn't think it wrapped up all the loose ends in a satisfactory way (like the husband never came back and they never talked about him again?) but I really enjoyed this thriller anyway.
Graphic: Animal death, Child abuse, Confinement, Emotional abuse, Grief, Car accident, Death of parent, Gaslighting
My favorite character was Agatha. I think that tells you all you need to know about the book.
But I’ll share a few of my other thoughts anyway.
It was very oddly paced, everything either happened too fast or not fast enough for the story line. Romance was thrown in randomly and was quite unrealistic (I know like this book is supposed to be realistic or something)
The only characters you know a smidgen about are Margot and the mom.
And it’s basically a journal of what could practically be bullet points of what Margot does on a day to day basis at Copeland hall.

If this book taught me one thing, it’s that you should definitely read the fine print before agreeing to move in with a "prestigious" family in a creepy mansion. Margot is technically "lucky" (if that’s what we’re calling it) to be plucked from her group home and brought to the Suttons' sprawling estate. But from the moment she arrives, it’s pretty clear that the Sutton family’s idea of "companionship" is… unconventional.
Margot’s main job? To be a buddy to Agatha, the Suttons’ daughter, who’s about as lively as an antique doll and about twice as unnerving. At first, Margot’s like, "Hey, this beats the group home!" There’s a roof, food, and oh, Agatha’s older brother? Not bad on the eyes. But, as it turns out, there’s always a catch with these fancy family estates. The Suttons seem way too interested in Margot, and the more time she spends with Agatha, the weirder things get. Suddenly, her "luck" feels more like a setup, with Sutton Manor turning into a psychological funhouse that messes with Margot’s mind. And as Margot starts unraveling the Suttons' secrets, she learns that the real nightmare isn’t in her head—it’s lurking somewhere in that drafty, gothic mansion.
Throw in a handsome-but-mysterious older brother and some serious Jane Eyre vibes, and you’ve got yourself a creepy, slow-burn thriller that’ll have you side-eyeing every old mansion in sight. The twists keep you guessing, and just when you think Margot’s finally caught a break, the house says, “Not so fast.”
It’s spooky, atmospheric, and perfect for anyone who loves a good “why is everyone in this family so creepy?” kind of read.
