The beginning of this book was almost too descriptive and it made it feel really dragg-y for a while, but damn. When that latter half took off, it took OFF. It’s not necessarily a story that broke the mold in any way, but it was very entertaining in a very morbid way, and I was here for it.
Somewhat predictable plot. Guessed the twist very early on. Still an entertaining and fun read!
I had really high hopes this book. I was expecting it to be really creepy and chilling but it ended up being just underwhelming and kinda boring . and the romance? I don’t think this book needed a romance. There were parts I enjoyed though and I liked that this book kinda reminded me of Mexican Gothic.
This books was not at all what I was expecting. When I bought it, I honestly thought it would be paranormal, but it was not. I still really enjoyed the story and the ending definitely made me cry!
I’ve always found munchausen by proxy very intriguing. The way that someone’s mind can intentionally hurt their child and say it’s the best for them. This book reminded me of that, which again, was not what I was expecting when I bought it.
That factor did get to be pretty predictable in the middle of the book, but I still enjoyed reading through it.
The story was well written and I grew to care for Margot and Agatha. I was prepared at the beginning to not like Agatha, again due to my thinking there would be some sort of paranormal aspect to her sickness, but I quickly found out that that was not the case.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and am surprised at how fast I read it!

bookish first preview review
The story had a cinematic worthy start, that went straight into what put our MC in the current predicament. Even though her life before the mansion is short second, those chapters still conveyed quite a lot about her. Once she reached the mansion, it gets apparent that something is off, and I really like how this air of mystery and gloom was maintained that even after reading I was getting chills thinking what is to come... It's been a while that a YA mystery caught my interest, so I'd like to give this a go!
The cover seems plain but I suppose the silver spoon with nails/needles on them is reminiscent of the proverb as well as...something else.

I liked the setup and I enjoyed the intrigue that was building up throughout the beginning and middle. Once we find out the "twist" or the actual climax, it lost a little bit for me because it's been done before. This book did it in a way I appreciated, however, it felt a little stale. I was hoping for something a little different. Not a bad YA thriller! If you like tense mother-daughter relationships or creepy mansions, this would be a fun one.
