Surviving a tragic accident that killed the rest of her family, Margot is left an orphan with no relatives to take her in. Margot spends a few weeks in the group home when a rich family comes to give her a new home. Old friends of her dad’s, the Suttons, are warm and welcoming except for their daughter, Agatha, who has a weird illness. Soon after her arrival, Margot learns why they decided to bring her here, to be Agatha’s companion. As Margot gets to know Agatha and her mother Laura, she begins to feel more at ease. Wandering throughout the house, she learns about the past generations of families that used to live their and realizes that everything is not exactly how it seems. With clues and the truth buried around the mansion, its up to Margot to put everything together and save those she has come to care about. “The Companion,” by Katie Alender, is very interesting and just creepy enough to keep the reader hooked until the very end! Suspense, romance and drama all play a huge role in this book. The main character is strong-willed and knows that she must try to understand what is going around her. The author does a great job of creating a world where people are fixated on the past and every page is full of detail. This book is great for those who enjoy suspense and horror novels!

The Companion by Katie Alender was a much faster read than I anticipated, but I loved it all the same. This book had some spooky elements, which helped it to be one well rounded psychological thriller. Though I think it had a lot of build up, it pays off in the end. I really liked the characters, and the development between them, and though I feel like there was a bit of forced romance, I’ll let it slide for the fact that this book was 100% enjoyable from cover to cover. I could hardly put it down! If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers, I would definitely recommend this book. Once you get into it, you won’t want to put it down.

I feel like the ending was a little rushed and predictable and there were some plot holes but overall the book was entertaining enough that I wanted to see it through.

Summer Scares 2022 YA selection.

Creepy and intriguing page-turner. I do have a few unanswered questions though.
