A book of two halves for me. Literally. Tengo was such a bore. He had no character or personality. Aomame on the other hand was very interesting. The same thing is told to the multiple times with only a tiny bit of new information added each time. I found this quite frustrating at times. I guess it served to slow down the pace to add tension but I mostly found it annoying. Despite all these nagging points I did finish this because I find the story to be very intriguing. I just hope Tengo finds a personality in the next book.

I couldn't get in to it. Not sure if it was the translation but I found it laboured on and whole passages I would find myself skipping over. I love the ideas but it was so slow building. Also the descriptions of sex in particular felt really unnecessary alot of the times. Not going to the read the rest of the series.

As much as I enjoy Murakami's writing, sometimes I'd just stop in the middle of the stupidest sentence with so much silly misoginy... I wish he'd stop describing underage girls the way he does, and rather puts that energy into more description of magical realism elements. But overall, although it took me a while, I still liked the flow and the plot, and I'm excited to continue.
