This book was perfect. Definitely recommend even if you aren’t Jewish. It explains a lot about culture. And this author is known for highlighting disabilities. In this one it’s chronic pain. I enjoyed learning about how chronic pain affected the main character and in the end how she lived for herself despite her disability.

Avital Cohen is doing her best to run her family’s bakery despite her chronic pain. Working alongside her brother and her team of dedicated employees, she still finds herself needing more help in the bakery. In walks charming Ethan, whose arrival sparks Avital’s interest from the first time their eyes meet. When Ethan applies for the open bakery position, Avital hires him, but little does she know, Ethan was sent by his grandfather to steal a secret family recipe.

Read if you enjoy:
•family drama
•he falls first
•grand gestures
•Romeo & Juliet vibes
•sweet bakery treats

Quotes I loved:
“Crying doesn’t mean you’re weak,” Rabbi Jason said genuinely. “Crying in front of another person means you’re strong. It means you’re okay with being vulnerable. Most people pretend they’re made of steel, that nothing ever hurts them, that everything is Instagram-worthy toxic positivity.“

“If your heart is in the right place, it will never lead you in the wrong direction.”

“I don’t know if there’s a God, Avi,” Ethan said, meeting her eyes directly. “But I know that when I look at you, there’s something good in this universe. There’s something better, still worth fighting for. You are—“ the words caught in his throat
“—you’re the very best thing to ever happen to me.”

“Even on the bad days…there can be good.”

This was my second book by Meltzer, and I’m excited to dive into her novel, Mr. Perfect On Paper.
