Parts of this book were so stunningly beautiful and the characters so lovingly crafted that I cried, multiple times, on multiple airplanes. But the overall storyline felt very odd and disjointed, like some kind of fruitless scavenger hunt, and the climax felt rushed and unsatisfying.
On the flipside, my mom sent me this book in a care package along with a hand-stitched bookmark that just said "I ❤️ Bobby" on it and I can't believe my Nerd Mom sent me a bookmark of her favorite character from a book just to get me to read it. (It worked. Bobby is also my favorite.)

I'm so conflicted about whether or not I liked this book. I liked the flashbacks... they were upsetting, engrossing, and generally well written. The part of the story that takes place during modern times wasn't as interesting or as well written. The characters all felt a little awkward and I wasn't super engrossed in what was happening. That being said, I did get sucked into the story about halfway through and read the whole thing in a few days, so it can't have been that bad.
