I went into this book blind- only knowing that I wanted to read it so I could watch the movie with Jonathon Jackson and Alexis Blidel.
Iโm completely surprised with how much I loved this story. I was nervous that I would have a hard time with it since itโs categorized as a middle school book, so I thought that I would find it childish or annoying but that is the opposite of what I thought while reading.
I kept getting the feelings of eeriness and comfort which were such an odd coupling of feelings. The epilogue was beautiful and melancholic ๐ธ ๐ค

Middle school Katie missed out! I remember that this was assigned reading and I didnโt enjoy it at the time. How wrong I was! What a gem!

There are books you love when youโre young and books you carry with you for life. Tuck Everlasting has always been the latter for me. Itโs the story that first helped me understand that death is a part of life, without being too dark or overwhelming. It offers a gentle and honest reflection on the value of time and reminds us that growing older is not a burden, but a beautiful privilege.
Revisiting this book after 20+ years was like stepping back into a memory that still glows with wonder. The 50th anniversary edition brings the story to life in such a meaningful way, offering space to reflect on the journey this book has taken through generations.

Hearing this new audiobook narrated by Alexis Bledel, who once portrayed Winnie Foster in the 2002 film adaptation, felt incredibly full circle. Her voice carries the innocence and emotional weight of the story with care, almost as if Winnie herself is remembering it all. The anniversary edition includes a foreword by Gabrielle Zevin, an afterword by Natalie Babbittโs daughter, and other thoughtful bonus features that make this feel like more than a re-release. It is a love letter to the storyโs legacy.
Thank you to Macmillan Audio and Libro.fm for the advanced listening copy of this edition. The care and magic woven into this new recording made the experience feel brand new, even as it honored the original spirit.

โDonโt be afraid of death; be afraid of an unlived life. You donโt have to live forever, you just have to live.โ
โThe ownership of land is an odd thing when you come to think of it. How deep, after all, can it go? If a person owns a piece of land, does he own it all the way down, in ever narrowing dimensions, till it meets all other pieces at the center of the earth? Or does ownership consist only of a thin crust under which the friendly worms have never heard of trespassing?โ
โYou canโt have living without dying. So you canโt call it living, what we got. We just are, we just be, like rocks beside the road.โ

Tuck Everlasting is a quiet, powerful story that continues to resonate across time. It reminds us that forever is not always a gift, and that the beauty of life comes from the fact that it ends. Whether youโre reading it for the first time or returning to it after many years, this anniversary edition is the perfect opportunity to fall in love with the Tucks all over again.
