💔💔💔💔💔
There's never a day that goes by that I have never thought of Jude after finishing this book. Safe to say, this has scarred me for life but I loved every bit of it.

This book is stunning. I don’t know for sure yet if this is a 5 star, I need to sit with my thoughts and feelings. Some parts I found quite slow and I was losing interest, but then they’d hit you with something big which redeemed those moments and sometimes even had me turning back.

Some quick notes on things I liked the most:
•The way you sometimes had to figure out for yourself who’s POV you were in
•The way things are alluded to at the start of the book and you slowly slowly receive the information you want
•The intense conversations and chapters, with their light comedic relief-specifically one chapter where Willem is talking about the different environments and whiplash, and Jude says “So I am NZ”
•The way this book makes you feel something.

This book really taught me the difference between a well written book and a good book.
Because even though this book is written well, I wou dn't recommend it to my worst enemy.
I don't understand why so many people anjoyed this book. Never in my life did I cry whilr reading a book from actual terror of never ending terrible descriptions.
And for what?
So at the end the author could scribble something about kindness even though it was all Harold gave Jude, and still he killed himself.
So how being kind help? The only conclusion to draw from this book is maybe - everything is hopeless and nothing can be helped
Or - don't rape children
Noted, didn't need a whole 800 paged book for that.
So someone who genuinely enjoyed this book please explain why to me

From the reviews I’ve read you either love this book or you hate it. Hate is a strong word, but I really didn’t like this book. It was traumatic and sad and every time you thought it was looking up and happy things were happening, nope, sad and traumatic again. I read another review that said the Author was intentionally giving the main character an awful life and that was the point of the book. I don’t think I would have loved it if there had been a happy ending but the self-sabotage and heartbreak throughout was just too much for me. If you like sad emotional reads, give it a try but I recommend anyone who reads this to look up and read the trigger warnings because there’s is a lot of them and they go into a lot of detail. I considered putting this on my DNF list and I regret that didn’t just quit because it wasn’t worth it for me.

What would compel someone to write such a horrific book. once you think it can’t get worse, cannot get sadder, the impossible happens

I have never read a book like this in my life. This book literally chewed me up and spit me the fuck out. The characters are so loveable and three dimensional, but each so flawed in such real ways. I found myself relating to, hating, and loving all of them at one point or another. A little life is definitely not for everyone. If you even think you might not be able to handle the intense content, it's not for you. But for everyone else, this is an incredible insight into the minds of such diverse characters. As for everyone who calls it trauma porn, I understand why they would say that, but I don't agree. All in all, I will definitely be reading this again at some point, and hopefully it won't take me as long to finish it.
