Just actual torture, I truly don’t know what would make her write this book but I hope she has been able to heal from it because I don’t think I will

This is a wonderfully written book about terrible things. It's characters are rich and explored deeply enough for readers to develop a strong connection to them, which makes the terrible things worse. There are people who I would never recommend this book to, and I would suggest looking up content warnings before delving in if you are prone to triggers. It is not without flaws, but it affected me deeply (for better or worse).

So beautifully written, but oh so sad. It was both traumatic and healing, devastating but hopeful. It gives so many perspectives, so many insights. As traumatized as I am from the book, I also feel I have grown and healed from it, too.

PLEASE check trigger warnings before reading. It is a HEAVY and DIFFICULT read.

This is the second time I read A Little Life, and yet it was somehow even more devastating and poignant than the first. The prose is captivating and flows effortlessly. Jude, and all of them, are desperately loveable and constantly relatable. The book is perfectly titled. It is, for better or for worse, an arresting chronicle of a whole human life. It is graphic and physically painful to read, but it is worthwhile. We love people and it matters even if it is not enough. Read this book. You will be devastated, but not disappointed.

I’m going to be thinking about this for a long time. In the best way. Memorable. Soulful. Moving. But please see content warnings, this could be potentially triggering or you may want to prepare to read differently ❤️

Take notes, they will help so much at first. It will say “he did” / “he said” but the POV changes up without notice so knowing the characters will keep you from being confused. Hard book to read since it’s so emotional but such a good read. I felt connected to the characters, almost like a friend by the end so you really feel their feels. Triggers!

There are sad books, there are  devastating books, and there is A Little Life.
All its 800 pages are filled with sadness, tears and trauma, punchin you in the gut. I think about Jude every single day, these characters feel like family and I refused to let them leave me after finishing this  monstrosity  of a book. Hanya Yanighara is a true treasure, really being able to make you feel with her words. This was hard to read, but it was all worth it.
