Wow! Turtles All the Way Down is so extremely heavy. Early on I immediately felt like I wasn’t the target audience for this. It seemed very YA in the beginning / high school focused. I quickly began to change my mind. I found Aza relatable as someone with mental health issues. Although, the escalation as the book went out felt devastating. At some point, I found myself thinking Daisy is a terrible friend, but the more I thought on it it’s just really the fact that Daisy doesn’t understand mental illness and certainly didn’t understand the level to which Aza struggled with it. Aza and Davis’s friendship/ relationship development was so sweet. I felt the ending was really fitting for the story.

My goodness I adore this book. The portrayal of mental illness and pain is so spot on.

The term chronic pain captures nothing of the grinding, constant, ceaseless, inescapable hurt. And the term crazy arrives at us with none of the terror and worry you live with. Nor do either of those terms connote the courage people in such pains exemplify

Thank you John Green for another modern classic, there are so many life-altering quotes in this book. Each one is a tasty morsel.

The description of mental illness and the struggle with OCD was very interesting and I appreciated that aspect of this book very much. The plot wasn’t particularly compelling though.
