Stephen Graham Jones is such a talented author and I really enjoyed this novel. I admit, My Heart is a Chainsaw was not a huge hit for me- I got lost in the many characters but loved Jade enough to pick up this sequel. I'm so glad I did because this was awesome!

I had to refresh my memory on all that happened in Chainsaw, and a few times was still a bit confused with the many characters in this one as well, but damn- the twists and turns this narrative takes will have you tearing through the pages forsaking sleep to see what happens next. As with all of Stephen's works, this one delivers with a one-two punch of visceral gore and violence followed closely by serious emotional trauma. Be prepared. Tears as well as audible gasps escaped me multiple times throughout, and I am stoked to see where this all ends next year when the final book is published. Jade is a god damn national treasure (and so is Stephen Graham Jones).

Enjoyed it a bit more than chainsaw-- partly due to the action getting started earlier on, partly due to already having such a fondness for Jade, partly due to all the interesting POV stuff and framing. I think Jones' writing style is genuinely amazing and that makes his books really interesting to read, even if the narrative isn't my favorite ever. Not to say I disliked the narrative here, either, but I think the characters are what really shone here along with the way that Jones sculpts his stories. A wonderful sequel with some really fun tie-ins/callbacks/etc., and I look forward to Angel!

Much like a good horror movie, this book has so many twist and turns that I’m already excited about rereading it. My hope with a reread is to catch all of the little things that add up to the conclusion that have been set up along the way. And while I have seen for some people, it can be confusing because it’s not straightforward at the end . I think that actually creates the magic of the story. It really captures that ability for you to want to reread it to see what you missed or to see the signs sooner .

This is definitely one that I will be adding to my collection and re reading
