Listening Woman opens with a blind Listening Woman being the only survivor of a homicide, as she was not visible to the murderer. It also brings us the horrifying "Goldrims" who is met at the beginning of the book, but not identified until much later.

Listening Woman is an interesting mystery, though Hillerman has a tendency to have Leaphorn solve the problem without passing it along to the reader until after the conclusion of the action.
