Excellent reading the 2nd time through. I had forgotten how many big things happened in this last book written exclusively by Robert Jordan before his passing. Now to double back and read New Spring, which i should have read immediately before this one. Oops!

Just finished this one today and i must say that it was a heck of a lot better than the last book. Had some good battles and closure to previous dilemmas.

Spoiler
I must say however that one thing does frustrate me, Robert Jordan seems to have this need to completely maim Rand before he is allowed to powerfully wield the one power. How much more can he take. He cleansed the male half of the power, but he still gets sick; every time he tries to take hold of the power he has to battle his alter ego; and now his left hand is blown off and has to relearn the sword!

While the pacing in this book is a little bit better than the previous one, it still felt quite long and non developing. The last couple of pages were the ones to have the true revelations for the rest of the saga.

However, I have to say that it is sad to know this was the last book Jordan was able to write before his untimely death, which makes me excited to see what Sanderson brought with him to the saga as a whole.

Ended up skipping books 8-10 on my third read of the series in like six years now, I don't think I have the patience in me anymore to go through the entire slog again. Maybe on a subsequent read? But yeah, this 11th installment in The Wheel of Time will always have a special place in my heart. The last book ever written by Robert Jordan, it's probably my second favorite by him after Lord of Chaos. The sotry finally picks up pace again - entering the final lap, a lot of dangling plotlines come to fruition (some for good, and some for the worse), and absolutely delightful writing all round. Love it.
