Utterly weird, a little gross, violent, edgy, and, most of all, bizarre, this is one of the most engrossing books I’ve ever read. With beautiful art, interesting characters, a compelling story, and plenty of the “what the f***” moments, this is definitely a book where you’ll be on the edge of your seat as if you’re watching a live horse race where everything is on the line and anything can happen. Go, go, Zeppeli!

Absolute peak.

Wow, what did I just read? Steel Ball Run is an absolute wild ride. Part Western, part action-packed race, and all the over-the-top JoJo goodness fans have come to love. From the very first chapter, I was on the edge of my seat, completely immersed in the unpredictable chaos of the cross-country race. Some of the pages felt graphically clustered and dense at times, but having character names labeled helped a lot in following the fast-paced action and ever-growing cast. The iconic JoJo-style humor is alive and well throughout. It’s clever, weird, and hilarious in a way only Araki can pull off.

I was especially happy with who ends up winning the first race, and I loved the little Easter eggs sprinkled throughout, like being number 636, aka animal husbandry in the Dewey Decimal System. It’s those bizarre, oddly specific touches that make Steel Ball Run unforgettable.
