I really didn't like this one. It was so bad that I had to skim heavily to even finish it. The author was trying really hard to be clever, but it just didn't mesh with my sense of humor, I guess. I found it more grating than funny. It seemed that the author was going for a really quirky, fun story, but I was mostly bored.

It's labeled (at least at my library) as young adult fiction, and I think that was definitely a mis-label. It's definitely juvenile fiction. Compared to some of the really awesome YA fiction I've been reading, this one just seems really amateur. I'm sure there's a market for this kind of book, but I'm not it, so I won't be continuing with this series.

The first half of the book felt like the same thing over and over and over again. If you can get past that it's a pretty good read.

It took me forever to get through this book. I think it’s been a couple of months. While I think Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo is a good book, it didn’t have the pull-you-completely-and-helplessly-into-the-story feel. I wanted to read it . . . I just didn’t have to. Does that make sense? Anyway, it was a fun story. I hope to get to the other books in the series someday . . . but it’s not something I feel like reading now.

A book series that I grew up reading, and I had a sudden urge to reread this series. So, I requested the book from another library in my system and I remembered how much I truly enjoyed this series. So, I need to find the rest to read now.

Even though the story was moving me along, the narrative would take me away from the storyline. It annoyed me! But the story held up enough that I'm excited to read the next one.

Leven is orphaned at birth. His mother's half sister is the only relative that will take Leven, she and her husband don't want him which is evident in the fact that Leven's bedroom is on the porch of their trailer home.
Leven is however watched over by 2 beings from Foo. One is Clover, a furry type that is mischievous and protective. The other is Geth. He is in the form of a tree that over hangs the trailer.
When Leven turns 14, Clover shows himself and set Leven on the adventure of a lifetime. Geth has to help fate release him from the tree and find his way to Leven when Leven leaves with Clover. Along the way the meet Winter, who is another being from Foo, but doesn't know it. Both Leven and Winter have an unusual gift that helps them in their adventure back to Foo.
The bad guy in the story is Sabine, he wants to take over Foo and stop the world from dreaming.

I have read this story before and find it to be in my top 10 fantasy reads. You have to let your imagination soar, and that is the intrigue of the story. What is possible and where does fate come unto your life.

I really enjoyed it! The creativity was amazing, and the characters were perfect! I wish we had the other books at our local library...

This book was...interesting? It follows a typical storyline of a Chosen One boy born into a god-awful family who neglects his existence until ~something changes~. The story has so many adorable quirks, like Geth the toothpick and Winter's personality as a whole is simply wonderful. The writing is fantastical and you get wrapped up in it, especially if you're in your teenage years. It's definitely meant for a younger audience. It launches them into a fantastical world of dreams and nightmares and supernatural powers. It's a little weird at some points, but you constantly want to turn the page and figure out what happens next. There are even quirky illustrations of the characters and what's happening. It's a good book for teens who are looking for an introduction to a fantasy world. It's similar to Harry Potter in that way, but with less wands and broomsticks and more strange creatures and powers.

Warnings:
- simple writing
- strange creatures
- Harry Potter-esque
- very strange
