Definitely an improvement, as a sequel. The Great and Secret Show was good, and a huge influence on me when I read it as a teenager lol, but it was kind of confused in its message. Everville has more of a focus on stories and the value of humanity, which I mostly appreciate. These characters deserve it

I didn't realize this was a sequel until I was already fairly far into this book, but it's a testament to the skill of world building that I never once felt *lost* while I was reading it. It's one part cosmic horror, one part dissection of storytelling, and it is a great mess of threads weaving together into an excellent whole. I'll definitely have to go back and grab the first book in the series.
