3.55 AVERAGE

Received an ARC via NetGalley.

I was expecting a fun beach read but with rich, unlikable characters. But I really liked Nora and the main characters. The story was engaging but it wasn’t just an empty beach thriller. I was surprised by how invested I got in the story and the characters. It was also witty too. Definitely enjoyable and I’ve already recommended it to friends.

Nora Davies meets and marries Will Somerset after a whirlwind romance. When Will disappears the morning after his birthday party, everyone wonders the same thing – where is Will?

I loved this book and was hooked from the beginning. I liked the way it went back to when Will and Nora first met and became engaged and then back to the present as Nora tries to uncover who killed Will and keep the police away from suspecting her. Lots of other characters – Will’s ex, his daughter, Nora’s friends Beau and Este, and the restaurant owner, Marcus, made for an entertaining read! Looking forward to their next book!

Moderately paced beach read mystery. Nothing to love or hate about it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for providing this book, with my honest review below.

I loved the mystery in Happy Wife along with Nora, the not so quintessential trophy wife. From the start we get a feel for how the residents of Winter Park Florida have looked down on her for her marriage to a rich older man, Will, and when he goes missing she feels the heat and suspicion. Complete with his ex wife throwing her under the bus and Will’s law partner and his wife being less than friendly, I was cheering for Nora to find Will and find a way to get revenge. Sadly Will’s not coming back anytime soon, but due to flashbacks to how Nora met him and their relationship he wasn’t lost as a character and her relationship with him helped draw a picture of a young woman devastated and understandably eager to find the real culprit.

This had a solid twist along with some great mystery around which character would have wanted Will gone, but the relatable writing and Nora herself was what had me sincerely invested. I wish this could be a series, but if we only get Happy Wife I’m still content, as I believe other readers will be.
