Wild dark monster hunter story. Plowed through the Archer’s Peak storyline and looking forward to reading more.

A wonderful collection of the first three volumes. An interesting plot with the door left wide open for some amazing world building potential.

I read the first three volumes in one sitting so going to review them together. I love Erica Slaughter!! First of all she looks like a badass - I can't get enough of her illustrations with bloody machetes or chainsaws. But also I loved that she actually sees, hears, and listens to children and treats them like human beings, is honest with them. It's really rare to see that in media and in real life so it was really great for me to see. I also love that she is intent on doing things her way, staying true to her beliefs instead of trying to fix broken/bad systems from the inside. I also liked Tommy's character development. Took a star off because wasn't a huge fan of most of the other characters and the art style was good but not my favorite.

Tightly written and exquisitely illustrated, SIKTC offers up a fantastical world in an unsettlingly familiar setting. This first book is a genuine joy, and an easy binge-read for any horror-minded individual.

Sometimes you come across a graphic novel that, when you read it, feels visceral, like you could reach out and touch the world within it's pages. This is one such graphic novel. The characters are well written and fascinating, flawed and charismatic in equal measure, while the art style lends itself to the sometimes gruesome, gut punch content. I found myself devouring this book, hungry for the next page and, when I was finished, I felt compelled to go back and start again, looking for clues and details I might have missed the first time through. I wanted to know more, to explore this world of monsters both mystical and human.

The concept of imagination sits like a beating heart within the story, but also gets twisted, turned on it's head in a way I haven't seen before. The idea that our nightmares could become reality simply by us willing them into being is woven through the narrative in a way that is both fantastical but also compellingly real. And the consequences are immediate and devastating.

10/10 James Tynion IV has done it again and I will be picking up future volumes of this series whenever they're published.
