Quirky story, surprising for a 200 year old novel, with some rather dated and unpolitically correct language; but also some quite advanced scenarios. Read the John Butt translation in print and ebook version with introduction by Philip Littell - the former far superior!
You need a good background in history to appreciate the satire.
I became rather fixated on the crimson sheep from El Dorado, but I think the rest of the book was entertaining too.
Damn, Candide was one melodramatic man. Also, this is the first book that I have ever annotated!

Read in the original French in college. It's weird. Not something I would read again voluntarily.
The ideas presented were really interesting, but I didn't particularly enjoy reading it. I was like "ok" the whole time.
