Bit of a mixed bag as you might expect, I particularly liked 12 of the 32 including Allende, Gemmell, Iyer, Dapin, Hyland, Jones & Lewycka ... and Jan Morris was the stand out for me.

Some lovely stories in here. Quite good for a work book.

I read this collection because it had a piece on Luxembourg, and I was having trouble finding anything set there that I wanted to read. The collection was so much fun that I read the whole thing. It has everything from backpacking in Mexico, to visiting a maximum security prison in the USA, to going on a school trip on a pacific island. It was all super fun to read while sitting at home in the winter, waiting to go on holiday.

The traveler’s tales genre is alive and well. This book has a little of everything—Antarctica, revolutions, disappearing resorts, death, that one preachy author, train escapes, mangoes. My favorite story was the guy who picked up a live shark off the beach in England to put it back in the sea—twice! He missed the first time! I read that one aloud and my whole family enjoyed it.

To be fair, I'm rating the audiobook. I couldn't handle the narrators - each of them (one male, one female) droned on and on in monotone and I just couldn't get past it. I had such high hopes too...

I like to travel. I like to read. I like to be inspired by writers who travel. This collection is meant for me.

This book was enjoyable and had many good stories. I loved the idea and many of the stories were written by authors I really like. I''m happy to say most of these authors did not let me down. There were some stories I really loved: However, some stories were so long-winded that I lost interest and didn't get much from them. These stories didn't seem to make a point or have any real "events", but just wound along a strange path that last me half way through. Overall I would recommend this book for the many great stories it contains. Especially if there is an author that you enjoy, because most likely you will enjoy the story they tell.
Spoiler
The story about the homeless person sharing his cake; the story describing the various people at the World Cup; the story about prison; the story about pick pockets in Rome.mkat303's review against another edition

Better than fiction? Actually, some of these authors should stick to fiction and leave the travel writing to travel writers. At least that's what I thought through the first half of the book. There are some gems in here, though.
I may not have read everything in this anthology, but it's overdue at the library. Oops.

I'm always a sucker for these travel anthologies, and this one is better than most. It introduced me to several new authors, which is always a bonus.
