Podría afirmar que este libro es una suerte de memoria, pero hay mucha poesía adentro. Patti hace pequeños descubrimientos a lo largo del libro, que, de forma orgánica podrían volverse sentencias de vida. De pronto ambos personajes se ven rodeados de muertes apresuradas de jóvenes talentos (como Janis Joplin y Jimi Hendrix) pero en Patti hay algo que tal vez muchos desconocen de su vida y convicciones: Smith siempre regresa a su familia. El lazo que mantiene con sus hermanos y el recuerdo feliz de su infancia representan una especie de cable a tierra que equilibra su inmersión en la bohemia de la época.
Casi al final del libro, uno puede encontrarse con líneas que recuerdan que la prosa de Patti Smith está sumergida en poesía y que emociona no solo cuando escuchamos sus canciones, sino también cuando la leemos:

Didn't know anything about Patti, Robert, or a lot of the people in their circle, but I know how popular and influential this memoir is and I wanted to learn a bit of NYC history at the same time.
Put it down for a bit to read the long book I had borrowed from the library but as soon as I picked it back up I could not put it down.
Her writing is so poetic, and I found it to be as moving and gripping as fiction given how little I knew about the main characters, with Patti and Robert's relationship being the crux around which the plot moved.
In addition to satiating my desire for a bit of city history, I also learned a lot about art and music idols who I had only ever a base level knowledge of.

Blev ikke helt færdig. Jeg synes den var meget god i starten, men der var simpelthen for mange referencer konstant. Det gjorde at jeg ikke fik læst den helt færdigt (79 procent). Der blev hele tiden introduceret nye personer, som blev glemt efter et par sider, og derfor kunne jeg ikke holde styr på de personer der rent faktisk var vigtige! Den var også bare lidt kedelig
Absolutely altered my life. Not in a big way but in a gentle way. An artists reminder- express and create. A truthful, strong willed and courageous memoir.
Patti manages to portray the grittiest most painful life events in such a romantic light, I wish I could put her glasses on and see through the same lens. 5/5
