Very much like handmaid's tale but still very interesting.

This is like a teen version of The Handmaid's Tale. It's aimed at younger audiences, only decently well written, and the plot only varies slightly to the premise of Margaret Atwood's classic. In New America women are governed by men. Young women from the time of their first blood can never be alone and are provided a government chaperone to help mold them into subservient young women. Their education is subpar and the only thing their future holds is marriage or spinsterhood as a chaperone. Sound familiar? I thought the ending was rushed and their were some big plot holes. Fast paced and easy to read but could have used some more work.

Omg I loved this book soo much! I haven’t read any new distopians lately and this one was definitely different than the ones I have read in the past. I loved the concept behind the chaperone and Stella. There wasn’t any question left unanswered by the time I finished the book.

Awesome! A lot like the The Handmaid's Tale, but way more YA. About New America, about the girls there who have zero choices, about a girl who is learning more about the world thanks to her Chaperone and figures out to stand up for herself... to get away from it all. It was really well written and I love that the book had short chapters. The MC was such a great character to follow and you just want to root for her! I loved it when we got in the normal America and our MC found out all the truths. All the horrible truths. While I was a bit on the fence about her decision there I could also understand it. She is doing this for all the girls in New America, including her youngest sister. There were quite a few interesting and awesome twists and boy I loved each one. It was well-written and I would recommend this one to all!

Sorry but this was literally so bad. Like how was it simultaneously way too rushed and sooooo long? Absolutely no closure was provided at the end either and the part where she interacted with “normal” teenagers was hilariously unrealistic and weird. Also I’m assuming most of her character development was supposed to have happened during the longer time skip, like why didn’t we get to see any of that??? It felt so abrupt. Also WHY DID IT LEAVE ME WITH MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS? Like was the mom good or bad and was the dad good or bad and who killed the first chaperone LIKE NOTHING WAS ANSWERED. And it was political to the point where it was annoying and I know it was supposed to be a political feminist book but like when she met those girls from Old America and they had like shaved heads and all their friends were like the United Nations of different backgrounds and demographics I was like how is this realistic like what in the Netflix diversity casting is this???? Sorry I just had a very hard time with this one and probably should’ve DNFed.
