This book was written in the 90s and I think if it came out today certain people would be kn their high horse insisting it be removed from schools because one alien uses the pronoun It. I'm rereading it this summer with my niec and nephew, and it really holds up. It has a great focus on empathy as well

Made for kids, but doesn't treat the audience like they're dumb. Rod's everyday problems are interrupted when aliens litterally crash into his room. They deputize him and he gets roped into helping them repair the ship and capture an intergalactic criminal

Fyi, the series gets way more interesting in later books.

This is my favorite series by Bruce Coville and has been since 4th grade. It is a little more thoughtful then the Space Brat series but more playful then the Unicorn Chronicles.

A really fun kids' book. :D

This book held up a lot better than I thought it would. This review is probably pretty biased since I loved Bruce Coville and he was probably my first introduction to common science fiction themes. Yes, this book contains lots of cliches. Yes, a lot of science fiction themes are introduced at a simple level. But there was a lot more science fiction themes introduced than I remember. There were some pretty clever parts. This was the original science fiction adventure book that I loved without being the science fiction/horror mashup that was so popular. And I still stand by these books today.

3.5! As always, Bruce Coville is a delight.

We read this book as a class, kids love it! Lots of booger jokes.
