He gets interestingly close to the idea of the Hogfather as being born from the woods themselves, and the pig an ancestral figure of terror from the days of the retreating icesheets (Rob Holdstock territory, hardly new for Terry P. either). The urban myth / contemporary legend that Santa Claus’s robe is only recently depicted as being red (it used to be green; he also had antlers...) is mentioned but despatched. A shame Hogfather went down so ill with me, because I enjoyed Feet of Clay. Is there another one since this? Rumours are heard prophesying Jingo; apart from that...? The imminent death of the Discworld has been announced for years but reports have been greatly exaggerated. (Pratchett: "You’ll pay me what for another one?").
The perfect book to read over the Christmas season; after all, it's always a good time to spend the holidays with Death. Generally speaking, any foray into the Discworld is only ever in competition with itself. My 3 star rating is only such as I wasn't as interested in the villian this round and discussions of teeth (of which there were many) are slightly creepy to my mind. (Yes, I know that's partially the point.) I still don't find Susan as interesting as her parents, but she's growing on me and I like her better as a no-nonsense governess than as a school child. If you're looking for a bit of holiday fear (or cheer), look no further!

The journey of reading Discworld novels is a bit of a messy one because it jumps around between different sub-stories, and sometimes it's hard to get focused, but then it ends and I can't bring myself to be objective about it. As always, it's hilarious, it's heartwarming and it's fun. Hogfather explores the topics of belief through a lens that even I, a non-believer of a lot of things, can still relate to.
Through the character of Death, Terry Pratchett explores what it's like to be human. Discworld's Death is my favorite interpretation of the character I've seen anywhere. He's obsessed with human life yet is the one to take it. Susan's addition since Soul Music is also a great choice both for how great of a character she is independently, but also because of her relationship with her grandfather. And she gets fleshed out a lot more in this book.
As always, Pratchett's prose is on point. At times beautiful and oftentimes hilarious, Terry is incredible with descriptions. He paints a picture so well. And his character work is, again, as always, on point. SO many lovable characters in this, and the already lovable ones become even more so.
Reading this fantastical world where the world is a disc and it's on top of 4 elephants and they're on top of a giant turtle makes me feel more human than ever.

This took me longer than needed to finish, which how my days are set up finding time to listen to an audiobook has been interesting. I was excited to learn that the series was going to be re-recorded with various narrators and Bill Nightly doing the footnotes. Even more so when they released the titles in the US.
This was my second Discworld novel and it was just as enjoyable as the first. I really can not get over how each book so for is a ragtag team of characters that feel like it comes from a crazy D&D campaign. In this case, it is to save the Hogfather and the world. Looking forward to the next release.

Nope, I think this book got lost on me because I was listening too it. When dealing with different universe's, the author really has to be talented to pull it off. Listening to it didn't give me any break to know that the pov had changed or I had switched to a different dimension. I found it tedious and convoluted. Not a fan!
