This book started off really strong for me. I loved the setting - a women's medical facility in Boston - and every moment of this book felt very relevant and topical. Every moment of it screamed Boston which I don't see too often in books so that was fun!

I had a hard time getting emotionally invested in a few of the characters and found the ending a bit anti-climactic. But loved Claudia!

Ok, this 3 star rating may be a little harsh but I feel like this had a lot of plot lines that could have climaxed into something big, but they all kind of petered out into sad, ordinary endings. Possibly that’s the point, but when I got to the end of the book I felt like ultimately nothing happened. Very intriguing points of view surrounding the mercy street clinic abortion clinic though!

Hot-topics-abortion, drugs, religion, guns, education (or lack of it), income, extremists, race and more. I read this book for a book club and it kept my attention. The author does a very good job of describing the location (especially Boston winters), characters, and the varied points of view.
This book isn’t really about plot, but about character development. There wasn’t really any suspense or significant action until near the end of the middle. After so much buildup, the ending felt anticlimactic. With all that said, this book is VERY relevant to current times (especially with the recent overturn of Roe vs. Wade) and gives a lot of food for thought regarding women’s reproductive rights and men’s [perceived] role in the conversation. I felt invested in and interested in the characters (particularly Claudia, Timmy, and some of the secondary characters. Victor sucks, period.) Definitely worth reading, especially if you like well-developed characters and are interested in fiction related to the topic of women’s health.
