Philippa Gregory

Another of my favorite genre. What the heck happened to Prince Edward???? Is there anything of Philippas I haven't read now?

I am not keen on reading history books, or very good with names and chronological events, but I love history. So I go the route of historical fiction to help me learn history. I'd read, Google for some facts and read some more. It's interesting to know that all the monarchs in England after Elizabeth could trace their roots back to her!

I love this book. It's my first Gregory book and I'll definitely be reading more! I am not completely in love with the main characters although it's impressive that Elizabeth not only went from a commoner to become the Queen but also to be able to keep her player husband's heart in her hands (or so he said). Granted nobody knows for sure exactly what happened back then, I felt like their ambitions (even if they thought it was for the greater good) were their own destruction. I wonder what happened to the Princes. I do hope that Elizabeth didn't put her eggs in one nest and did send Henry off somewhere. But whatever she did, there were still two little boys who most likely died in the Tower.

This was my first Philippa Gregory novel and I was not disappointed! I thought she did an excellent job of blending historical events with character drama - making for a great historical fiction! I will say that I recently binged the series The White Queen on Starz, and I think it helped me a great deal keeping track of all of the characters. I went into this book knowing very little of the cast of characters, so I found having a bit of background knowledge helpful. I will definitely continue some of the other books in this series, as well as check-out the author's other series! Highly recommend for history lovers who appreciate a little drama/romance/intrigue on the side.

Kdybych to zrovna neviděla jako seriál, asi by mě to bavilo víc. Každopádně - dobře napsané, myslím, že na Válku růží hned tak nezapomenu. Opravdu to je jak skutečná Hra o trůny.

I absolutely devoured this book. After seeing the HBO series based on the book, I was in love and wanted to read the book. I love the resilience of Elizabeth, she is fierce and knows what she wants. She goes to literal war for her life and her family. I studied the War of the Roses in school and the drama, intrigue, and secrets in the book were exactly what I wanted!
slow-paced

If you like stories about royalty, magic and romance, this book has it all!

Who knew another royal family besides the Tudors could be so interesting! I loved reading about the Plantagenets, and the story of Elizabeth Woodville was exciting. Especially how the author wove in the story of Melusina, the goddess. It makes a character more interesting when she's descended from diety! This was an excellent book. The only thing that bugged me (why it didn't get 5 stars) was that it was a bit repetitive and there were times when the action was stopped and nothing happened. But overall, a great read.

The historical accuracy of this and the story behind it all was great. I’ve been wanting to read this for a while.
