The war of the roses. 1400's. The White Queen shows a life that matches how I think people (royals) in that time would actually behave in reality. Plotting women, murderous men, all thirsting for the power over England. It has always seemed to me to be a very hard time especially for women and not the romanticized versions I see in other books, movies, and fairs which has often bothered me. We follow Elizabeth Woodville who marries King Edward IV as they try to keep their position and produce heirs that will live long enough to inherit the crown. I appreciate the detailed history of kings and their family and which battles they won or lost. It appears to be mostly accurate, according to my minimal knowledge and research of that period. The part I had trouble with was with the magic. Not that Elizabeth and her mother use it, but that it works. It is all unbelievable in an otherwise very good book.

Read after [b:The Red Queen|7148256|The Red Queen (The Plantagenet and Tudor Novels, #3)|Philippa Gregory|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1281335912l/7148256._SX50_.jpg|7413156] as I was interested in seeing the shoe on the other foot. Normally, I'd be rolling my eyes at what I'd consider a painfully obvious cash-grab ("Come pay twice for the same story just with a different character's thoughts and feelings!") but... I actually really enjoyed it at the time. It was fascinating to read the events through Elizabeth's eyes, knowing what Margaret was thinking/doing at that exact same moment.

Did I enjoy this one as much as the Red Queen? No. But did I enjoy this book? Yeah, I did.

This was a great historical fiction full of lots of well researched fact. If you've ever heard the story about King Richard who killed his two nephews in the Tower of London, this is the book to read. No one actually knows what happened to Princes Edward and Richard, but this book gives their family story, as well as one of the most powerful and least known queens - Elizabeth Woodville.
