This is just so-so. There were parts I was into and others I skimmed. I normally love her stuff but this time, not so much.

This was a slow book for me. I honestly thought it was never going to end however I didn't hate it, I just didn't particularly enjoy it...

First off the whole supernatural/magic/Melusina aspect was a bad decision in my opinion. It wasn't needed and ruined the story for me. Absolutely pointless.

Also every other character was called Henry, Thomas, Richard, George or Elizabeth. It was a little confusing at times for me.

I just found the story quite slow. It was only 400 pages long but took me nearly 2 weeks to read. I just couldn't get into it properly.

I didn't want to put it down! This is the first book I've read by this author. I can't wait to get the next in the series!

Dishy and gossipy and wonderfully absorbing.

Flat characters and some incredibly repetitive sections. The actual history was fascinating.

I decided to pick this one up because it had been awhile since I'd read one of Philippa Gregory's novels. I'd been on a kick a few years ago that started with "The Other Boleyn Girl". This one really didn't stand out in any way, but I just enjoy the characters and time period in general. I'll be picking up some more of hers soon.
