Not a fan of the EQ novels I've read (too obviously whimsical) but the ss are effortlessnand brilliant. Nikki Porter leavens the S.S. Van Dine "sophication."

A calendar of crime; this is what every mystery fan needs. I followed the rules by reading each story during the month assigned to it and am glad I did. These stories are what short mysteries ought to be. They're puzzles to be solved. The reader just needs to get into the spirit, follow the clues, and use a bit of imagination. The only thing holding the collection back from a five-star rating from me is that the solutions to a couple of the mysteries were a little too far-fetched or not made convincing enough. Other than that, a great read. Highly recommended.
