Really really enjoyed this book. Cannot wait to get my hands on the next one!
This book was slow moving but I really enjoyed it. It just took a long time to build through the years as they grew up.
Solid 3.8
I love that Lada is not the typical girl, in fact her complete disregard for gener norms (and that she is so damn fiesty and no one wants to mess with her) is why I love her so much. I love historical fiction so this is a fun read but didn't love the sibling love triangle trope even if it is between brother and sister and brother stands no chance. It's still weird and gives me the ick, make it a childhood best friend instead of family and you can still get all the emotions imo

My favorite book of 2016 so far. This book is original, action packed, and very well written. I loved every single one of the characters but, especially the main character, Lada. Lada is basically an ultra badass warrior princess. So refreshing to read a YA novel where the main female character is strong, fierce, and not all consumed with love. While there is a love interest in the book it is by no means the center of the story. And while I suppose there is a love triangle it is not what you typically see and it should not deter you from reading this book.
Overall, I highly recommend this book. I'm already anxious to read the next one in the series.

3.5 to 4 stars.
I really enjoyed most of this book. The writing is phenomenal, but I found I was a little blindsided when the "romance" was introduced. Besides that, I loved practically everything about this book. Lada is simply awesome, she take shit from no one. Most of the time. There are also some freaking great quotes from the book which you can find by reading some reviews by people who actually know what they are doing.

Amazing
I had only a vague idea of what to expect from this book, having bought it on sale because of the tag line. Wow. What a ride! Thrill after thrill, heartache and more. It was a little slow at first and difficult to get into, but ultimately, I loved it.

To be honest, I wasn’t super impressed with this? I had pretty high expectations for this dark fantasy, and it ended up being extremely romance based... around a guy I don’t even like. The main characters are iffy for me, I don’t particularly care about the plot, and honestly, I think Fatima and the other girl (whose name I cannot remember and couldn’t spell if I did) would have been a million times more interesting to follow than Radu and Lada. I will say that the audiobook was narrated well... the contents were just not what I expected.

This was intense. There is clearly some controversy around this series, judging from some other GR reviews, but as a novel, it was highly enjoyable. Definitely more political and complicated than many historical YA fictions, but extremely well-done and perfect for higher-level readers who enjoy complex, interwoven stories.
