The version I read had both “Peter and Wendy” - the classic Peter Pan tale, and “Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens.” The language and writing style were a little hard to read as J.M. Barrie is a bit long-winded and writes in somewhat a stream of consciousness. As enamored as I’ve been by the story of a land where people don’t grow up, I was struck by both how cockiness and obnoxious Peter is and how somber and violent some of the scenes are. The “Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens” story is much more charming, written in the voice of a child, but there still are darker parts.

so whimsical, so beautifully written. this book made me laugh out loud, so it holds a special place in my heart.

I only read this for my girl Tinker Bell.

Edit: random thought I just had.

When Peter told Wendy that to kill a fairy you have to say I don’t believe in fairies did he just murder a fairy doing that?!!

Ah yes. Nothing like putting hatred on women and indigenous peoples into the minds of the youth. Can see why my grandfather turned out the way he did.

try to change the ending, Peter losing Wendy

Good.

I think we all know about the racism, but I wasn't expecting the level of misogyny towards Wendy and Mrs. Darling. Definitely not as magical now.
