I was already not totally into this because I could not connect with the characters, the plot was very low stakes, and the surrounding elements/family issues felt half-baked (personally)…

BUT THEN THOSE LAST THREE CHAPTERS??! girl what?!

An authors choice to wrap up a book in the last 5% is always going to be a fat no from me.

Also, that proposal? Strange. Just strange.

Even the main emotional conflict/grief that the MC experiences the entire book is not explored at all and is instead wrapped up in a pretty little bow that took half of one extremely short chapter to address… THE LAST CHAPTER NONETHELESS.

Despite the all caps happening, I’m not even mad. I’m disappointed and confused.

i like this book discussions on the importance of music, dementia and fate (aka the invisible string!!) but majority of this was boring and felt like it was trying to be deep but it did not land for me 😞

So apparently, if you listen to an 11 hour audiobook on x2 speed all the way through for six straight hours, you will finish it…I finished sounds like love because I could not put it down and when I was not physically reading it, I was listening to it.

Ashley Poston always weaves magical realism with such expert quality. since we don’t usually get her MMC POV, I thought this was a fun way of getting to see both Sasha and Joni’s stories intertwine and grow.

I love seeing all the cameos from her other books, but mostly, I really loved the setting and the characters. Each one was flawed and raw, and seeing the family dynamics, especially when dealing with hard topics such as dementia at home sickness really struck with me.

I’m someone who has always believe that music has such a power to heal. Seeing it used in this way really made me emotional and invested in the story from the start (plus it doesn’t hurt that she mentioned cookout within the first three chapters 😂)
