Whizzed through this one in a day because I, like Eli, was desperate for the answers. This book is half slice of gritty life and half magical realism and somehow creates a perfect balance between what could be real and what is. Its hard to shift from a child's POV to a teenager's one seamlessly and yet somehow the tone never totally changes, rather matures in a natural and emotional way. So many improbable moments that against all the odds, come alive on the page and never seem out of left field. This truly does live up to the acclaim it has been given and I'm excited to watch the TV series.

Käynnistyi vaikeasti, nutta imaisi lopulta mukaansa. Ei mikään helppo välipala. Osin surrealistinen, juonellinen, runollinen ja kuvaileva.

I tried to read this during a bit of a slump and got nearly a hundred pages in, but I just couldn't find the motivation to pick it up.

Helaas, pas tegen het einde van het boek kreeg het boek me in de greep, toen lag het tempo van de events ook wat hoger. Wellicht had ik zelf even moeten googlen op ´ornaatelfje´ toen ik dat op de eerste bladzijde las, maar tegen het einde was me duidelijk wat het was. Er staan enkele woorden met een nummer in het boek, achterin worden deze verklaard, wellicht hadden ze hier ook ornaatelfje in moeten opnemen. Het koste me bijna de hele maand om het in etappes te lezen.
