I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first book but it was still a fun ride.
The first one was more focused on Davi's journey to gaining her loyal horde and building relationships, whereas this one is more focused on stopping humanity from being completely wiped out and solving the mystery of why the hell she's been stuck in this time loop. I'm a sucker for friendship building which is probably why I enjoyed the first one more. There is still some of that here but it's not the main focus.
I like how Davi developed in this one; with Tsav's help she managed to recognise her copping mechanism of seeing people as pieces on a chessboard/objects to be manoeuvred , that allowed her to live through all those timeloops, really wasnt serving her or those people now. Seeing her have to remind herself of this multiple times helped show how she was really trying to push through this and how she valued the relationships she'd built this time around and didnt want to lose them. The fact that some people still die regardless because this is war was painful but well done.
The ending felt a bit quick but I liked that we got an epilogue that set out what came after. Davi's narrative style is irreverent as always.
A wild ride but one I enjoyed for sure.I did miss the time loop elements of the first story though I won't lie. There was none of that here but the near death experiences were high
