I absolutely devoured this book! We all know the classic trope—girl meets bad man—but this story takes it to another level. The “bad man” turns out to be not quite as bad as her even worse dad, and somehow along the way, they fall in love. And let me just say: I had no idea I needed a kinky Jafar in my life, but apparently, I really did!
One thing I think is really important to point out—especially since I noticed some other reviews suggesting otherwise—is that everything between the characters is completely consensual. Jasmine is given a safe word the very first time they’re together, and she always has the option to use it. Yes, there’s a definite power imbalance, and it’s not always perfectly ethical, but her agency and consent are clear throughout.
The world-building was rich and fascinating—I was totally swept away. I’m already looking forward to diving into more stories set in this universe!
