challenging dark fast-paced

It was okay! It had its good moments but I think dark romance just isn’t for me and that’s why I didn’t love it.

The steam was off the charts. Katee Robert is the queen of smut.
The plot was actually pretty rich and we love some character development.
It’s such a cool retelling of Aladdin but Jafar is the Hero and Aladdin is the villain.

DNF at 18%. This one isn’t for me. I would try another one in the series though.

fast-paced

This story is a mafia dark romance with a constant undercurrent of consensual non-consent (CNC) and submission/domination between the leads both in their sex life and their relationship. There was no build up, the backstory is all tell and no show and the reader just jumps into the story. This was disappointing because the build up is what makes romance books so gripping! I felt the story continuously repeated itself (the characters kept mulling over the same thoughts) and just didn't feel attached to the characters. With its short length and surface level world building, it reads more like short form fan fiction than a romance book.

Tropes:
mafia, dominant MMC, possessive MMC, submissive FMC, dd/lg, kidnapping, Jasmine/Jafar, alternating perspectives

This was good! Jafar was annoying sometimes, but I enjoyed Jasmine!
