Listened to the audiobook for Voice of the Ocean and it was done so so well and I believe its what made the story for me. My favorite part hands down when Natalie Naudus sang some of the siren songs - so beautiful andd SO GOOD!
This was my first Little Mermaid retelling and I liked where Kelsey took it. Voice of the Ocean gives us, Siren Princess meets Pirates with 'darker' emotional themes throughout the story. I really loved the FMC and the friendships that Celeste made throughout the story. While I wanted a bit more from the MMC and got confused as I felt that it ended a bit abruptly. (I thought this was a standalone at first - woops) This story was really intriguing and captivated me the whole time. I'm excited to see where the series goes and would fully recommend this to anyone who loves YA fantasy retellings, forbidden romance, emotion vs familial duty and secrets & betrayal.
Thank you Netgalley and Blackstone Publishing - Audiobooks for this ALC - reviews are all my own honest opinions.

sounded fun as a concept but not done very well and there’s like no chemistry in the romance :-(

Raiden was not attractive at all. He was okay-ish in the first 60%, but there’s no chemistry between him and Celeste. Kind of disappointing, especially since on paper, the concept and plot is amazing to me. Also, the development of their chemistry and romance is boring to me.
🏴☠️👑 And Raiden, honestly, go fuck yourself. You have been one of the least likeable MMC’s I’ve read about in a loooong time. You made some BIG mistakes, so I was really hoping Kelsey would come up with a well-written, thoughtful way to redeem you.
But no. He may kindly go put a stick up his arse. Maybe it will give him a spine in the process, so he can stop making flirty jokes like a hormonal, teenage boy and start apologising like a man.
🧜🏼♀️ Celeste has no good reason for not talking???
It would have made sense to say
“she doesn’t talk because they’ll find out she knows jack shit about the human world and therefore must be a Siren” but instead they chose to go with
“I was afraid you would think my accent sounds stupid” 😀🔫

I feel like my reads have been so hit and miss lately! I was excited for this because I love Kelsey Impicciche (Single Girl does the 100 Baby Challenge in Sims was my jam) and was excited to see what she brought to a novel. Unfortunately, this wasn't as entertaining as just her being herself. This is a little mermaid retelling with the Prince being the Prince of the Pirates and a race to find a magical isle. Which all sounds great but this book felt SO SLOW. I debated DNF-ing it a few times but ultimately because I hate not finishing books I persevered. The story did get better in the last 25% but ultimately didn't save it. All the 'foreshadowing' felt really heavy handed so the twist wasn't surprising at all. I loved the pirate crew as found family aspect but ultimately I cared much more about those side characters than either of the two leads. I bumped it up from a 2.5 to a 3 for those characters and the dog sidekick.
