Thank you Netgalley, Little Brown Uk Atom and the author Kelsey Impicciche for an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I will admit that I wasn't particularly convinced at the start of the book, but as continued reading it got progressively better. I loved the found family and the atmosphere that Celeste found with the crew. Plus this is a Little Mermaid retelling so I must admit I was very curious on how the author had twisted the story her way.

Even if I was annoyed by quite a good chunk of characters. Don't get me wrong, I agree with the fact that Celeste is extremely young and that for all her life her family and friends never really trusted her with the information that mattered (We take into consideration the whole Chorus exam and the situation with the voice of the Ocean where she was not made aware of its true nature nevertheless being a member of the Staria royal family) but at the same time she is still too trusting (not always I like to think she has a good head on her shoulders) but a bit naive yes. That comes along with the fact that she grew up the way she did, aka with nobody really expecting anything from her, and the desire to prove herself both to her family and to her kingdom makes completely sense.

Now, taking out what happened with our dear prince I expect a lot to happen in book two, because yes this is a book 1 of what I probably think a duology. Now, I expect mainly Raiden's redemption, not Bastian, the man should have just drowned the first time.

On the other hand I hope the Admiral will have all the bones he wants and that his life will always be blessed and beautiful. Oh you sweet soul I could read a whole book on this pup being absolutely adorable and I would love every single page of it.

At the end of the day however this is an excellent debut with a banging ending filled with drama, drama, shabby revelations, betrayal and pirates who's crew I would love to join even if I know I would die on the first small mishap.

Can't wait for book 2 to be out and to know how this whole story is going to end. Hopefully a HEA.

This book felt like an old friend. It had a lot of familiar elements from Disney’s Little Mermaid and Pirates. However, the author put her own creative spin on why certain plot points happened and I enjoyed most of them!
The only one I didn’t enjoy was that Celeste was mute by choice. It felt like she was faking a disability and it didn’t sit right with me.
This book ends abruptly, but the ending is still satisfying with many questions that get answered. Looking forward to reading part two!
