What an incredible little mermaid retelling!! I love that it was so different too, but also the similarities in it was so well done! And can I just say the narrator did a phenomenal job!
I really enjoyed how this one flowed, and everything you find out little by little. It’s got pirates, magic, adventure and sirens, plus a bit of romance, but it’s YA I’m pretty sure. Think slow burn and tension!
I went into this thinking it was a standalone haha, don’t make the same mistake, it’s not there will be more books, which I’m not mad about! I’m so intrigued how the story is going to go! It was really really good! I was captivated and entertained the entire time!

The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie, but the original story was also my first experience with fairytales as they are. I was really impressed with Impocciche's interpretation and am looking forward to book 2! And the narrator does such a good job bringing Voice of the Ocean to life, so if you're into 🎧, this is a good one!

Celeste wants so badly to belong and to be accepted, but can't seem to find that anywhere-- except with the human private crew she finds herself apart of due to certain circumstances. The last 10% was WILD. It was like kick after kick. I can't wait to
read book 2!!

Voice of the Ocean is the debut novel by influencer Kelsey Impicciche.
It’s a retelling of The Little Mermaid but only in the broad strokes: she’s a mermaid princess, he’s a prince, and yes, there’s a witch involved so she can get legs. Beyond that, the plot takes a fresh direction. The heroine joins the royal guard to protect her people from humans, having always been taught they were dangerous. But when she’s sent to sink the prince’s ship, she starts to question everything she’s believed.
I really enjoyed the witty banter between the characters and the bursts of action. The story has all the good stuff—found family, pirates, mermaids, and even an adorable little dog. In this world, mermaids have power through their voices, which adds a magical twist.
I listened to the audiobook and loved it! My favorite moments were the hauntingly beautiful mermaid songs—they gave me chills in the best way.
I’ll definitely be recommending it and buying a physical copy for my shelf.

i’m proud of myself for thugging through this book. i was into it the first 70ish pages but then everything changed when the fire nation attacked and this book did a whole like 360 degree flip. so much was happening in this book but it felt like NOTHING happened at the same time and omg the fmc was just so annoying and insufferable. the only reason i finished this book was so jade could live vicariously through my suffering of reading this 400 page mess that gave nothing.
