i was nervous going into this because i’ve been a fan of kelsey’s since even before the 100 baby challenge and didn’t want to hype it up too much, but i thoroughly enjoyed this book. the world building, magic system, character development, and overall imagery was incredibly well done and it had excellent pacing between the action and the romance. at times, it felt a bit repetitive, like we were being reminded of the same things every so often, but other than that i loved it. an excellent debut novel and i can’t wait for the sequel

What the fuck 😃 If I could describe the last 20% with 3 words it would be: drama, drama, and drama. And we are going to shove as much information as we possibly can! I went into this book thinking it's a standalone. To everyone out there, IT'S NOT!!! So please prepare for a cliffhanger.

What you need to like to enjoy this book: the little mermaid, pirates and found family. Not gonna lie, at first it irritated me how similar it was to the little mermaid (what a shocker since it's a retelling), but after the 35% mark things changed drastically. In a good way. I would say it was action packed, and definitely easy to understand even if you don't normally read fantasies.
By the way...the MMC has a dog. He's cute too

I loved how the main character learned to embrace her emotions. So often female main characters are forced to be stoic to be powerful. Celeste’s power was her empathy. A delightful and refreshing read, and absolutely PERFECT for the summer!!

I liked the story in the beginning, but the ending kind of disappointed me. It felt rushed or weirdly cut to give an option for a sequel. Certainly in comparison with the rest of the book. Everything that was held a secret wa revealed in like a couple of pages. I honestly didn't like this for a debut novel.

Would have preferred for her to end up with kiyami and not raiden. I'd say still z'n option there, but don't see that happening.

The fact that Raiden was immune to the siren song sadly made me guess a bit to much. I don't know if I'd guessed it if it wasn't repeated that many times.

Sadly I don't think I would read a sequel of this story if it would come to be.
