This novel had me holding back tears and hungry for more Norse mythology. Gornichec has written a true masterpiece about 'The Witch' of Norse stories and made her a true heroine among the gods.

I wanted to love this, and at the start I did, but sadly after the first 100 pages it dropped off a little for me. The blurb gives a away a lot in my opinion - over half of the events in the book is given away in there.
The build up to Angrboda finally leaving Loki is long, but the moment itself is satisfying. I liked how in the end everyone agrees that the gods at Asgard are to blame for most of the hurt. The part where she treks around with the She-wolf in tow is beautiful, and I did cry at the end when she dies.
I think this book hits harder, emotionally, if you're a parent yourself. The concept of doing everything for your children is very prominent in here and that's a layer of emotion I can't reach.

“Everyone knows I’m my father’s daughter , it’s my mother they always seem to forget”
A beautiful Norse mythology retelling. The story of Angraboda, her 3 children, and the strength of a woman and her will to do everything she can to protect her family/loved ones, no matter the cost.
“Guilt is heavy thing, mother witch….It’s best left behind if you want to move forward.”
