Ik denk dat ik hem nu voor de vijfde keer heb gelezen. Nog steeds even indrukwekkend...

Holy shit. This book was so heavy and literally broke my heart. Knowing how young she was and all the things she went through as a baby. Cause that was no teen—she was a baby. The raw honesty of Christiane’s story is gut-wrenching, and it’s impossible not to feel the weight of her pain and desperation as you read. The way she describes her spiral into addiction, the exploitation she faced, and the complete lack of support from the adults who were supposed to protect her is devastating. It’s not just a story about drugs; it’s a story about neglect, survival, and the failure of society to care for its most vulnerable. What makes it even harder is knowing this wasn’t just a fictional tale—it was someone’s real life. This book will stay with me for a long time, and it’s a stark reminder of how easily kids can fall through the cracks when the world turns its back on them.

I also lowkey wonder is this is what inspired Penelope Douglas’s character Christiane Fane.

Definição de livro a ler quando queremos ver o vício nas drogas na perspectiva da pessoa que se droga.

Surpreendentemente cru e real.

Pretty sad not gonna lie. 😀 Read 92% in less than a week and apparently needed a one year break for the other 8%.

I was deeply impressed with this book when I read it as a teenager. Made me think a lot about drug use and their dangers. It was much more effective than any speech I had in high school about drugs. It's not a romantic view of that kind of life like we can see in other books/movies.
Every teenager should read it.
