The first time I laid my hands on the book was during my Croatian literature class in elementary school. My teacher was making a digression by showing few books with drugs/alcohol/cigarettes theme to imply on the danger of such. I usually pick my books by reading first few sentences, so I started to read. I didn't realise where I was untill teacher yelled my name and told me to concentrate on lessons. I read almost half of the book by the end of the school day.
The thing that surprised me the most was the way it was written. Sharp, direct without decorating the truth. Back then I was 12-13 year old kid who read mostly kiddie books, with very few contact into mature themes. Even today I'm still taken aback by descriptions and honesty of storytelling.
