First sapphic read and I'm here for it - queer girls for the win! I was a bit surprised to see how well balanced the spice and story was; the story was well thought out. Looking forward to continuing this series.

I'm surprised that a traditionally published, sapphic romance could feel so much like a (okayish) cishet Wattpad story.

The characters are all rather clichee. The bad girl only looking for sex because
she was cheated on
, the good girl being dutiful, the kind of stuck-up step-sister, the loud, sassy friend, the sexist douchebag, the vain step-mother.

Delilah, the main character, felt like a 15-years-old (boy) with her behaviour at times (come on woman, you're 29, it's time to self-reflect). The way the pairing thought about each other (but especially Delilah) felt quite objectifying at times and reminded me of the way men are usually written. I couldn't really connect to their romantic chemistry.

Overall this wasn't a bad read per se, though 2.25 stars may beg to differ. The topic is served right, but there were too many aspects that already bothered me while reading. I guess I read to many (better) Wattpad stories like that in my teenage years, so that a romance like that doesn't impress me much anymore.

I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. I have not read a good non-fantasy romance in a while. The only issues I had with this story is some parts were a tad cringey and some parts felt like it dragged/went into crazy detail but I feel like with the latter issue, it's only a problem for me because I'm use to romances that are written with less detail.
The story also made me feel a lot of anxiety and sadness which I did not expect. It's not a bad thing because the author does an AMAZING job conveying those emotions and getting you sucked into what the main characters are feeling. I also loved that while I was reading, I kept guessing and assuming the worst was going to happen because some of these characters have bad trauma and hurt people hurt people but it didn't happen
I love reading characters that communicate efficiently, set boundaries and showcase healthy and mature behavior. Claire and Delilah were so cute together, and such loveable characters with amazing character development.
I also appreciated how there was no super uncomfortable scenes that focused on someone coming out/homophobia. There were so many queer people and no uncomfyness or anything that induced a *side eye*
I instantly started the next book after this.
