4.0 AVERAGE

Not nearly enough Roach in this one.

This book was so differently written than the others that I had a harder time getting into it.

So incredible

I appreciate how each Witcher book is structured. Here, while there's not a ton of movement in the plot (outside of some specific events with Yennefer and Ciri) it remains engaging because of Sapkowski's strong understanding of his characters.

Only two books left, and one of them is a prequel. Very curious to see how this all ends.

Good stuff. Read it as an audiobook for when I drove. Ciri was great. Needed less Geralt being kind of a loser. Overall, very enjoyable.

2023 review: I wanted to give this five stars so bad because when it was good, it was GOOD. But some portions were just dry as dust. Overall, good.

I could see why this series, in particular this book, may not be for everyone, but I am really digging the narrative pace. The previous book spent longer with one group of characters and had the most fulfilling arcs. On the other hand, this book splits the narrative up into so many different regions, characters, and periods of time so well that I had to physically put it down and manually close my jaw at some sequences for how well done they were. I’ve never read a story like this and the slow, methodical march of the plot is very satisfying in my opinion. As I jump into Lady of the Lake I am a bit afraid of the daunting challenge of wrapping up a fantasy series. If there’s a massive good vs evil battle that takes a third of the book I will be so disappointed.
