This book is being talked about by many booktubers and bookstagram that I follow. I was excited to read this book because of all the good reviews that they gave about this book. And my final verdict is I gave this book 3 stars. The book is a bit too slow for me and the climax is at the very end of the book and it makes me a bit on edge. I kind of suspect that Addie will give her soul to Luc to save Henry so I don't feel surprised about that. I actually thought that Henry will kill himself because he lost Addie, but apparently, I was wrong. I love Addie's journey through life, how she survives through all the hardships on her way. I'm drawn to Addie and Luc's relationship. I wish that Addie just succumb to his charm, but she's too stubborn and I know she knows him better than me so I'm not judging. I do feel her sadness when no one remembers her. Also, she can't even say her name out loud, which I think is cruel. Not to be able to leave a mark in this world, this concept is very foreign and I don't think I can last 300 years with that consequence. I like it that she always finds a way to get back up in the end.

I don't know, I do like this book, but it is a bit meh for me. The storyline is very interesting and this is my first time reading about a "time-traveling" kind of book, where the plotline goes back and then comes back to the present. I want to focus on the last part of the book. Henry gets his life back and publishes that book about Addie and seeing her acknowledge that is saddening yet it makes me happy because in the end there is someone that remembers her. In the final chapter, where Addie "surrenders" to Luc. I want to believe that she's more clever than Luc but I still don't believe that. He's a god, so I think Addie needs to thread her plans carefully if she really wants to get out of Luc's grasp. I'm curious to see where this story going to take. I read that this book going to be adapted into a movie, so we'll see how this story gets translated to the screen.

2/5 stars

I knew the hype was real and that this was going to be a new favorite of mine when I started reading and the beginning was a solid 5/5, but then the entire middle section was so painfully boring I just wanted to DNF and read anything else besides this book. Once I got to the last 10%, it was just as great as the beginning. I only wish this book kept the same pace and intrigue all the way through, because the drag in the middle left this being such a disappointing read for me.

In the beginning, Addie was a fascinating character with so much potential, which I feel like was lost somewhere in the middle. I typically love stories where we get to follow a character throughout a long stretch of time. And you would think for a woman who lived 300 years, a lot of exciting things must've happened in her lifetime, right? No. Or at least if they did, Ms. Schwab didn't make us privy to the interesting bits. In her past, we get to see her have different one-off encounters with different lovers, because they always forget. And we got to see her visits with "the darkness" on the anniversaries of her deal.

This is NOT a love story between a girl and the devil she sold her soul to. I feel like their scenes together, and their personalities as a whole, left a lot to be desired. If their characters were more fleshed out, I maybe could have felt some chemistry between them, but there was nothing. The concept sounds so cool and the execution is so dry. I would have thought it would be impossible to write about a girl's relationship with the devil and have it be so boring.

Henry is the worst. His backstory was not the slightest bit interesting. I can't even tell you a single personality trait of his. He's dull. His romance with Addie was dull-no chemistry at all. If the romance is gonna be one of the main aspects in a story, I wanna be able to root for them, feel for their relationship. There was none of that for me.

And the plot? Who is she? She was also lost after the first 10% and decided to make a return for the last 10%.

I don't think I can say anything else without spoilers so I'm gonna stop here. Despite, this being my first V.E. Schwab, I'm open to reading more from her, because the writing wasn't bad. I see so much potential in it and I would like to see if I have better luck with some of her other works.

5⭐️.

Such an easy 5⭐️ to give out. I absolutely loved reading Addie LaRue. It felt like I was reading romance, historical fiction and fantasy, all in one and I ate it up! Such a sweet story with three characters I fell in love with. Highly recommend this one!
