Something so nice about Levin’s easy-to-read, clever writing style

My second time reading this clever and suspenseful play.

Deathtrap. A thriller in two acts. One set, five characters. A juicy murder in Act One, unexpected developments in Act Two. Sound construction, good dialogue, laughs in the right places. Highly commercial.
The damn thing is perfect.

Sidney Bruhl, a once successful playwright of murder/mysteries and thrillers, has lost his mojo. When he receives a very promising manuscript from one of his students asking his opinion, sinister notions enter Sidney’s head.

Clever gimmick, clever plot, but I had no sympathy for any of the characters, so it wasn't very enjoyable.

It's been years since I've read a play, and, because of Covid, it feels like years since I've been to the theater. So this was an enjoyable read. Clever.

I love Ira Levin, and especially his plays. A little over the top, but I think it would be really fun to see staged.

What a great play. Amazing thriller. When you think you know what to expect, the playwright basically laughs in your face.
