pieces of this didn't work for me. this book is made up of (mostly previously published) essays and interviews. I often complain about essays that they don't go deep enough into any particular topic, and I found that to be mostly true here. I felt the longer interviews were really interesting and informative, but a lot of the shorter material I found to be quite surface level. this could be a good introduction to disability, and as Alice often writes for a broader (nondisabled) audience that might be the book's intent. the book is split into sections by topic. i found the first 3 to be the strongest. I wish there was some kind of throughline or narrative connecting them because without one my reading experience felt a bit disjointed. this definitely isn't a traditional memoir, and your mileage may vary on how much you like the format. this book is full of pictures and graphics and I'm really curious how that translates to an audio format. some of the graphics and essays had a more humorous tone, and that didn't work for me but might for you. I can totally see people finding this book very charming.
